With the UK gambling market liberalized, still there are problems. Mostly, it concerns taxation policies.

Because of the double taxation present in the UK many gambling venues, both at land and online casinos, may be forced to go out of business. As a result, because of the high UK taxes hampering expansion, William Hill, one of the two major land and internet bookies in the UK industry, is publicly petitioning the UK government to readdress the current gambling taxation laws

Currently, online casinos are paying 15% taxes on internet gambling revenues what is thought to be high when looked at with international perspective, i.e. companies like William Hill and Ladbrokes are facing heavy competition from foreign internet gambling companies offering their gambling services in the UK market as well.
